How do you check in on your mental health? When your internal check engine light comes on, where do you go to get tuned up?
Therapists are ideal, but let’s be honest, there isn’t always money in our budgets for sessions with a trusted person. And believe it or not, not all therapists are trustworthy.
It is important to find outlets to get out pent up emotions, insecurities, disappointment, fears, and even happiness.. It’s especially important to have ways to release the internal stuff. It is also crucial to have sources to recharge your mental wealth.
Mental Wellness has been a personal mission in my own life for the last few years. Realizing you’re not okay and being honest with self is a life altering process. Here are 11 self help therapies to maintain a wealthy mindset.
1. Focusing on a Higher Power: God, Allah, Ra, Jesus, Judaism, Islam, Ancestor Veneration. The list can go on for hundreds of Religions and spiritual practices. The point is to focus on connecting with a positive spiritual force to improve mental strength. Having faith in something means trusting it completely. People with strong faith have higher optimism, external control and self esteem. (source/ virtuesforlife.com & churchofjesuschrist.org)
2. Meditation is a practice in which an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. (source/Wikipedia) You might enjoy listening to Solfeggio Healing Frequencies or the teacher Mooji giving satsang talks. These two therapies will help you feel more centered in yourself.
3. Following social media accounts that make you feel loved and empowered. Unfollow social media accounts that gossip, tear people down, or leave you confused and filled with self doubt.
4. Listen to music or podcasts that tell you how worthy of love YOU are! Tune away from broadcast radio that shares unpredictable messages. Control your music, don’t let the music control you.
5. Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit. Aromatherapy has been used for centuries. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain. 6. Journaling: Don’t have pen and paper? No problem! Use Google docs, Microsoft Word or even the notes app on your phone. Buy notebooks at the beginning of the school year when they are super cheap or get a guided journal. When a journal is full, rewrite your favorite poems and thoughts in a digital space and then burn the journal. Some may choose to keep them for decades to look back into a different version of themselves. It’s your choice. They are your thoughts and feelings. Journaling is a healthy way to explore and observe yourself.
7. Exercise is a helpful and evidence-based intervention for anxiety, depression, and as an augmentation therapy for a range of other disorders. (Source/ psychologytools.com) Exercise relieves stress and boosts endorphins -a feel good chemical in the brain.
8. Learn new things: By consistently educating yourself and trying new things, you'll learn you're capable of change and growth, which keeps you open to new opportunities in life. Learning a new skill can get you out of a rut. Trying something new forces you to grow. We don't ever grow from taking action we've always taken. (Source/ psychologytoday.com & piedmont.org)
9. Unplug: Research suggests that taking even a brief break from TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter can ease symptoms of depression and anxiety. Staying off social media for a week meant, for some study participants, gaining about nine hours of free time, which improved their well-being..(Souce/ usanews.com)
10. Look yourself in the eyes everyday and recite I AM affirmations. Make a list of all the I AM’s that uplift your soul, print them out and say them out loud every morning.
11. Practice Gratitude in the good AND the bad times. You can literally have a pity party where you are crying your eyeballs out and then start saying I’m grateful for the tears! I’m grateful for the lesson! I’m F’ing GRATEFUL! You might even end up laughing at yourself in the process. Trust the process beloved.
The main goal of these 11 wellness ideas are to help you love yourself. When you love you, you have more love to share with others. In the end, LOVE WILL HEAL THE WORLD❣️
